Happy birthday Miss Melissa!

Halloween in Salem has begun! Saw the first Jack Sparrow a week ago, which is much like the first robin of spring in that it heralds the coming of many more.

Tonight is the first night of Eerie Evenings at the Witch House, where Lara and I are performing (not really 'telling') ghost stories. hopefully, the jitters will go away before we start. I'm always nervous right before a show, then pretty much fine for the whole run, but that first jittery night drives me crazy. Maybe the fact that I'm expecting to do this about 30 times tonight... Started working at Thirteen Ghosts again last Saturday. I picked it back up without missing a beat, I'm happy to say, although it's easy when all you have to do is jump out at someone!

The house still feels empty without Godsteve, but Marco has really come into his own as the 'cat of the house'. Steve was always jealous of any attention we gave Marco and would swat at him for approaching us. Now, Marco has become much braver and more outgoing, even though he's still terrified of everything. His constant desire for affection certainly helps salve the wounds of losing our little guy, not to mention that Marco has picked up many of Godsteve's endearing endearing qualities... as well as some of his not-so-charming traits :-)

Making weekly trips to Westbrook in preparation of filming "Falkyr". Trying to revive my couple-of-years-since-used sword skills ('Demonslayers' being the exception, but I was only throwing punches) is proving interesting, and since my character is supposed to be "the" sword-master; it'll be necessary to scrape off all rust on my sword-arm, pronto. I may be switching through several sword styles in a single fight, which I'm looking forward to! Really, I'm looking forward to everything!

In the Halloween spirit, I've been rewriting some of my scarier-themed plays in an attempt to put them out (or maybe up) for next Halloween. We'll just have to see!

Lara and I attended the "10th Anniversary of WWE Smackdown!" show at the TD Bank Garden, which was unfortunately not as cool we were hoping. Nothing really special about the matches and all the special guests were pre-recorded. The only really cool spot was a pre-taped segment with Duane Johnson where he slowly morphed back into his "The Rock" character. Even though it was pre-taped, it was absolutely "electrifying" and it felt completely natural to be "chanting The Rock's name...!"

That's all for me...

So, the Universalist church down the street from me has a board on which they usually put quotes from Scripture like a "Bible Thought of the Day". Recently, they put up a quote from a Harry Potter book. This somehow seems wrong to me. I won't put up the quote, because it's really the premise of it that bothers me. I'm not a religious person and know nothing about Universalists, it might make perfect sense to members of the faith. It's not "upsetting" to me, it's just kind of a "Hm". .. anyone have two cents to put in on this?

So yeah, it's been a pretty long time since I posted anything substantial here. I've been trying to check LJ every day to keep up with everyone while I plug away my regular overtime at work. So, here's a few things in the news...
* Still at Dogtopia, working five days and two doubles a week in addition to working at the Witch House when needed. You'd think all this working would somehow get me ahead in my bills, but you'd be wrong. A new plan should certainly be thought up now...
* Godsteve is still recovering from the ridiculousness he had to endure. Godsteve was recommended to have a bone marrow sample taken to check on his low platelet count. The day this was supposed to happen, the lab results came back that his count had improved and so, based on that and his ultrasound, the vet wanted to skip the marrow sample and take a sample from his suspicious-looking spleen. Well, turns out the lab made a mistake and his counts were low, thus endangering him during the procedure and causing internal bleeding for which he needed an emergency blood transfusion. The hospital was very apologetic and didn't charge us for most of his stay, but poor Steve is in pretty bad shape. He's started to bounce back recently, getting more of an appetite and becoming more mobile and active, but his red cell counts are still very low. Whether he'll need another transfusion is up in the air, but his body may actually have adjusted to the low count. We're starting him on prednisone to build him back up (he's a shade under seven pounds right now, which is not healthy at all). The fear is that he has cancer, but we can't do any real testing without risking further harm. So yeah, it sucks, and our little Steve is in a real fight.
* Marco, on the other hand, has really progressed since having ten (yes 10!) teeth removed. He's now become a lot more friendly and active, so it's a good thing to see! He's still afraid of everything, but now he more 'slinks away' than 'runs in a blind panic'.
* Lara and I have been spending a lot of time playing our "new" Xbox 360, which we bought from someone I work with, immersing ourselves in Fable 2 and Dynasty Warriors (who'd have thought ancient Chinese history was so much fun?). Lara has begun itching for "Bioshock" and "Batman: Arkham Asylum" while I just picked up a copy of "Tomb Raider: Underworld" (thanks, Amazon gift card!), a game that I hope will redeem me for getting so frustrated playing Tomber Raider 2 that I gave up during the first level.
* Speaking of frustration; writing plays is hard. I assume selling them will be harder, considering my work tends to be a little, um, different? ;-) Perhaps my plays will reach dramatic success once I'm dead and they become public domain.
* We attended an indie wrestling show in Webster, MA where Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall made a guest appearance. It was a very informal deal, so Lara managed to meet him after the show. With Roddy Piper, this marks two old-time wrestlers she likes that have hit on her. Should I be concerned?

So, our for Backlash seats were awesome. We were technically second row, but sat directly next to the timekeeper and ring announcers. Security was pretty lax at the Dunkin Donuts Center, though that wasn't a bad thing. Mauro and his friend were able to come down and hang out with us ringside befor ethe show, which would take an act of God at the Banknorth garden. I really like getting close enought to see how the whole production is run, it's fascinating. We learned that (horror of horrors!) wrestling is fake! ;-) Lara saw that the timekeeper had a list of who was going to win each match BEFORE the show started :-) He guarded this thing like it was the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. We also discovered that the sweet-seeming and personable ring announcer Lillian spends most of her time yelling at the timekeeper or texting on her blackberry during big matches. Boooo! The timekeeper was a very nice guy who let people takes photos of the championship belts he was holding and chatted amiably after the show, whereas the announcers blew off everyone. He informed Lara that he got yelled at over the headset for ringing the bell at the wrong time (apparently, even though he knows who will win, he doesn;t know "how" and has to make sure the bell is rung immediately after the ref's hand hits 3. (when he miscued, Lillian gave him hell). He also seems to serve as an assistant production manager, cueing the talent.
The show was phenomenal. Three world title changes (for each ofthe three WWE TV show brands) and a host of other good matches. We found that Lara and I may be on the "crowd reaction shot" for the DVD as, during a Bugs Bunny-esque exchange between a man-in-drag funnyman Santino Marella and a seven foot Punjabi loverboy The Great Khali, the cameraman was trained right on us for the particularly silly "reveal" as we stared slack-jawed. So, um, yeah, we'll see :-)
We were also in the most active corner as Shane McMahon was thrown into our area, then struck with a steel chair about a foot away from us by Cody (son-of-a-son-of-a-plumber) Rhodes. Shane and Lara had a *moment*, and she is allowed to leave me for him... he's a billionaire and heir to the empire, after all. We also got buzzed by the night's main eventers, John Cena and Edge (not the U2 guitar player) as they brawled through the crowd.
Things that were cool:
* Batista, the 6'8" muscleman, has perhaps the most impressive human physique I've ever seen, since once I saw him up close all I could say was "holy sh*t".
* Christian winning the ECW title. It was the first televised match of the show and the main reason Lara wanted to go. Every match on the card was good (which is rare) but this one stood out and had a happy ending for Christians and his Peeps.
* Stunts! In the end of their match, John Cena was thrown into a giant spotlight, causing a huge pyrotechnic reaction that left the spotlight in flames. People ask why I like wrestling so much but don't really care for baseball, boxing, MMA, etc. If boxing added pyro-rigged stunts, I'd watch.
* seeing meowmoto 's lost twin Ricky 'the Dragon' Steamboat! Even though he lost, it was a real treat to see his "One More Match" and join in the chant of "You still got it!"
*The dark (non-televised) match of Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler. I always like the dark matches; they're simple, fun and only seen by people in the arena.

The card!
-Kofi Kingston d. Dolph Ziggler
-Christian d. Jack Swagger for ECW Championship (Yay!)
-Kane d. CM Punk (boo!)
-Jeff Hardy d. Matt Hardy in an "I Quit" match (Jeff won this match by gaff-taping his brother to a table and threatening to leap off a ladder on him. Matt quit and Jeff did it anyway. Boys will be boys)
-Santina Marella (aka Santino in drag) d. Beth Phoenix to retain the Miss Wrestlemania title (after Khali bopped Beth on the head a la Andre the Giant in "Princess Bride"... Fezzik, jog his memory.)
- Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase jr. and Cody Rhodes d. Triple H, Batista and Shane McMahon (Orton was awarded the WWE championship in this match due to a series of events too complicated to go into)
- Edge d. John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Last Man Standing match (Cena was thrown into the spotlight by the Big Show, who could throw a Buick if he wanted)

All in all, the show was a lot of fun and we had a great time!

You know it's one of those milestone bdays when your parents get you 'ha-ha you're old' cards. Spent said day lounging about at home and visiting my favorite Salem establishments. The next night, Lara's mom had gotten us tickets for 'Jesus Christ Superstar' in Springfield. It was my first time seeing or hearing the show, which was a nice experience. The star was Ted Neeley, who played the role in the 1970's film. I admit to not being blown away by the performances, except for Neeley whose vocals were stunning, for a 67 year old man no less!

My grandfather was admitted to the hospital over a month ago and had us very scared. However, he powered through rehab and came home in time for Easter... then managed to fall and break his hip a few days ago. He's had a hip replacement now and is actually is very good spirits. He'll be back home soon, but the road to recovery is a hard one, especially at 76!

I've being doing a bit of overtime at work, which is handy since I've been hard-up for finding a part-time job. I can't wait to finish this new draft and will most definitely be asking for volunteer readers once it's done.

No luck finding acting lately. Community theatre and non-paying gigs unfortunately are out since I can't spare the overtime just yet. Phooey on that. Keeping my eyes open. I completed the long-put-off task of going through the boxes at my mother's house and pulling out all the stuff I've been wanting to bring here, as well as condensing the space (down to three bins!) I also dropped by to see my old friend Mike and his dad. Some folks just never change, but that can be a good thing. I caught up with them and met their cute new kittens. I also learned that one of my oldest friends was just arrested for being an idiot (not the official charge, but I don't feel like explaining it). Some folks never change, and that can be a bad thing.

Had dinner with my mom and sister tonight at Victoria Station and learned that my habit of trying the clam chowder at every place I go to may have been inherited from my grandfather. He says it's only good if the spoon stands up on its own, and I agree.

New hours at work mean that I now have my evenings free! Hooray for the new potential of doing a rehearsal schedule! Such a thing was unthinkable for the past few months...years, actually... but now there is at least the potential for it.

Tomorrow (or today, i guess) and Saturday, I expect to be doing some mega-cleaning around the house in preparation for Lara's return home on Sunday. It's been a laundry-filled week and the effects have ben far-reaching.
With the soon-to-be snow weather outside, Dogtopia is closed for the day and I'm left with time to post something!
Well, after a short-but-fun trip to Maine, Lara and I have brought home our own little Christmas gift: a three year old Maine coon cat named Marco! He was living at an old bookstore in Camden that was closing up for the winter and he was in need of a home. He immediately took to Lara, and his temper is perfect for getting along with Godsteve (ie very private, non-confrontational and chill). We told the folks at the store we'd be happy to take him and made plans to go up the next week.

On Sunday, we went to the Ipswich Inn to see the delightful JT Turner in his one-man "Christmas Carol", which was fantastic as before. JT's skill for storytelling is wonderful, and he did such a great job even while sick!

Monday, we went back up to Maine to claim the Marquis de Marco (one of many nicknames he can expect to have). He gave us a merry chase, as his three years in the bookstore were spent finding all the hiding places. He managed to hide behind some of the most apt books, including "The Merry Marco" and "Emotional Behavior in Humans and Animals". At last, we caught him and into the crate he went. He's been here less than a week and Godsteve is slowly beginning to tolerate his presence. They haven't fought or behaved aggressively at all (so far!) but Steve was not shy about letting us know he was unhappy. Marco, meanwhile, has been cautiously friendly with Steve and is warming up to Lara and I much more. He's found several favorite hiding places already. It's still a project cleaning years of bookstore dirt off him, but he seems to like it when Lara cleans him.

With today off, hopefully we can put the last of the holiday shopping to bed. I always enjoy going Christmas shopping, I just wish there weren't so many other people doing it too! ;-)

Whew!

Dropped Lara off at 5am for her pilot in Boston! Hopefully she'll be able to stay awake as we only got a few hours of sleep last night coming home from Survivor Series! Survivor Series was mostly awesome. Lara and I had great seats, we were the last row to get souvenir chairs to take home, which are taking up residence in our crowded living room. Seeing two world championships change hands in one night was very cool, all the traditional SS matches were fun. The Divas did great too! The big low point was, of course, Jeff Hardy's exclusion from the Smackdown main event. Yeah, what? huh? They spent three weeks building for his appearance there just to throw it all away on randomly adding Edge to the match? Huh? Not to mention that fact that Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov stunk up the place. Seriously, i thought these guys were called "professional" wrestlers; doesn't that mean Kozlov should have, like, talent? I don't know if the true and utter suck of that match translated to TV, but if the huge number of "boring" and "we want Hardy" chants don't tell WWE they dropped the ball, I don't know what will. The Smackdown writers deserve to be lined up and individually slapped by Triple H, if for no other reason than making him embarrass himself by failing to get a halfway decent match out of Kozlov. Not only did they make us endure that fart of a match, but they got people genuinely worried about Jeff Hardy's condition by teasing that his absence was drug-related, as if he overdosed and was critical, when it was all a gag that Edge had attacked him. Of course, no one even knew that was the deal until halfway through the show when Matt Hardy mentioned it. I don't know what they told the folks at home, but no one in the arena knew if Jeff was alive or dead until then. That's pretty disgusting, and like Lara said, it's crying wolf. Next time WWE.com reports a wrestler is hospitalized or dies, true or not, how likely are we to believe it? I know blending reality into storylines is a successful thing, but there are limits. Ah well, at least Edge won and not Kozlov. Though the last thing we need is yet another one of Edge's run-and-hide-for-weeks-and-never-ever-wrestle championship reign. At least the night was saved from disappointment by John Cena's triumphant return and big win over Chris Jericho! Cena's strength is bloody ridiculous, and the fact that he can lift a 240 lb man like he was nothing and slip him into the FU is just crazy. But since he's done that move to the 450 lb Great Khali and the 520 lbs Big Show, I guess nothing should surprise me anymore. I think Cena might train for matches by bench-pressing buildings. By the way, a few bits of confetti were falling from the rafters throughout the night, and Cena looked skyward disappointed when he won and the traditional confetti didn't happen. Ah well, it still a fun night! Even though we were sandwiched between rowdy morons behind us and two dopes with huge heads in front of us, we had two funny guys next to us. During the HBK/JBL teams match, the two monsters Great Khali and Kane were in the ring, and the guy beside us yelled "Hey Miz, get in there!" prompting the Miz to turn around and say to him "No way!" Too funny!

Two of the biggest crowd reactions of the night weren't even for wrestling things. The Smackdown Your Vote video was played; which showed John McCain's promo, for which he got booed as if the video had shown him kicking a puppy, and Barack Obama's promo in which he asks "Do you smell what Barack is cookin'?" This got a cheer as if the guy was handing out hundred dollar bills and a free kitten.
All in all, a good time had :-)

I have today off and will hopefully be able to get the car in to have some work done on it this morning.

On another note, Lara amd I went on a video game shopping spree and have been playing Lord of the Rings: the Third Age, which is a Final Fantasy-esque co-op game. We've also been playing WWE Smakcdown vs. RAW 2009, a franchise that seems determined to cut out the best things about the past versions in favor of flashier, less fun stuff. Oh WWE, does your desire to make us stop caring ever end? Lara has also been replaying the Kingdom Hearts games between gigs, reminding us just how much fun Disney can be. We also played through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battlenexus, which has the coolest unlockable feature ever; a console version of the TMNT arcade game from the 1990s!

Hades: "How dare you get a happy ending?! How DARE you?!"

The Godsteve does not believe in Saturday sleeping-in. So, time for me to actually post something here!

I am now settling into my new job at Dogtopia, a doggie daycare in Danvers that is probably the most fun job ever :-) I spend my day keeping law and order amongst a group of playful dogs of varying temperments; it's not unlike a rehearsal. :-) it feels great to let go of all the stress of not having a full-time gig. We'll see where things go from here!

Spent October working at my first haunt in Thirteen Ghosts in Salem, a 3D haunted house that was a blast. Met some cool people and scared a few others. If you've never seen it, Thirteen Ghosts is a product of haunted house specialists Boneyard Productions (who helped design Spookyworld) and is as much a 3D art gallery as it is a spookshow. Check it out next year!

Halloween was a real treat this year! After Lara finished catting, we got dolled up in our traditional wrestler costumes, Lara as Rowdy Roddy Piper and me as Bret Hitman Hart. Lara managed to run into a guy dressed as Mr.T, which made great silliness ensure. We checked out the Abominable Dr. Vitka's Freak Show at the Fool's Mansion (yes, that Vitka) which was...informative... Did you know that few people can turn down the prospect of stapling a $20 bill to a man's head? We also ran into my sister (dressed as Elmo) and her husband (dressed as an i have no idea) which was funny and unexpected.

by the way, final count: 33 Heath Ledger Jokers, 6 Heath Ledger Jokers Dressed As A Nurse
only one Mark Hamill Joker, good on him! He even had Harley Quinn.

I've been working on writing, re-writing and re-re-writing some of my plays to start sending them out. I think I have a few potential contenders. Some plays, like 'Demonslayers' I picture being a hard sell because it's nontraditional (big cast and you better know fightstuff) but we shall see. Perhaps some folks are looking for a whiff of fresh scare ;-) Now that I won't be spending all my free time at the computer on the job hunt, perhaps I can spend that time finishing some of my short stories and the like.

Tomorrow, it's off to casa de Pam & Rob, hope to see you there!

It's only been what, three months since my last post? Meh. It's been a pretty crazy few months!
So, things that have happened:
* Five awesome and well-received performances of a little show called "Demonslayers" at the West End Theater with copious thanks to JT and Amy, as well as an awesome cast and crew and especially ketala
* Quit ol' John Hancock as my brain cells were dying from lack of humanity. Remind me to never do a job like this again. Also, that four-hours-a-day-in-transit was no day at the beach. I've instead decided to stop wasting my time and actually make progress towards the career I want.
* Got up to the WET to see JT's farewell show "Shakespeare's Ghost", which was a real treat.
* Started writing with a vengeance, completed several plays and short stories; all of which I am very excited about and looking forward to the editing process of before trying to get them published.
*Travis' Awesome Cabin Party became the site of the 'Demonslayers' cast party, which was a good time had by all. I, of course, have bumbled the making of the new soundtracks for the cast and am still trying to rectify the problem. Hopefully, you will all have your soundtracks before...um... we do the show again ;-)
* On 7/4, celebrated two wonderful years with my sweetheart who I love so very much. We took a sunset sail on the Fame and docked in Salem Harbor to watch the fireworks. How many couples get fireworks on their anniversary?
* Bought a car! A blue Acura Integra that is ours, all ours! Hooray mobility!
* Joined up with a group of stunt performers to independently work on the craft of on-camera ass-kicking and got to put together my first done-for-film fight with the best possible partner - ketala!
* totally stomped all over ancient China in "Dynasty Warriors 4". Sun ShangXiang rocks the chakram. History lesson + video game = awesome
* decided to hang on in Massachusetts for a little while longer in order to see how this movie studio tax incentive plays out. Did background work on my first feature film, where i was once again coupled up with the lovely ketala... art does imitate life!
* my stepfather retired after many years at the gas company and my mom organized a surprise retirement party whose secret-itude was staggering and well-executed. My sister and I had a great time teasing Don onstage about the many household duties he was about to pick up.
* our old bathroom was gutted by the landlord, and after a month, has finally been finished and looks great! It sure is nice not thinking that the ceiling is going to cave in on you...

And there's been much more, but i think that's a good summing up!

So, yup, part-time work schedule is looming and some wonderfully lazy summer days have gone by and will continue to do so ;-)
We are, however, set to see the WWE Super-show in Springfield this weekend and are trying hard to make sure we can go see actingsuz's playwrighting debut in NYC! It's a 'maybe', but I would love to go and be there to support her!

Hope the recent of all who read this have been full of fun, love and sun, and I hope to see you soon!

It's Monday!

Spent the majority of last week out in Western Mass with Lara and her parents. It's nice to get out there admist the trees and vistas. The trip up was eventful, since Godsteve came with us in his cat carrier and, we soon discovered, could not "hold it" as long as we needed him to. After a washing of his carrier, blanket, mat, and my pants, and things were back to normal. Remind us to perform our interpretation of "Godsteve tries to show his disapproval at being cleaned and eat a handful of treats at the same time" for you.

We also discovered a magic stick, found out my favorite coffee placed had burned to the ground, took a not-quite hairpin turn, went to the chocolate Mecca (Chocolate Springs Cafe) , and I managed to plow through all the Batman comic compilations Lara's uncle had left there ("The Long Halloween" is awesome).

We hit a used record store called Turn It Up and came up with some great finds, including Chris Jericho's "Fozzy" CD, a VHS of Weird Al videos, "Monster Squad", "Karate Kid II" and "Evil Dead II"on DVD. Lara also found a The WHo live DVD, and a good deal on "The History of the WWE Championship", which has matches from Bruno Sammartino and Killer Kowalski (which Lara's dad much appreciated) up through Hulk Hogan and John Cena.

We returned home Thursday and spent the next two days reorganizing ourselves. Saturday, it was off to Taunton for the fight festivities at M & V's place. Since we just wrapped a show with swords, crowbars and claws, Lara and I decided to just have some fun and bust out our lightsabers for the occassion. Lara's double-bladed lightsaber may be one of the most difficult weapons there is to fight with, but we came up with a fubn 3 phrase bit that maybe we should film and youtube ;-) It was great to see folks again, especially a surprise cameo from the USMC's finest!

Right afterwards, we drove to Raynham to visit my grandmother for a nice chicken dinner and pleasant conversation :-) Sunday i had planned to have dinner with my mother, but somehow that didn't work out and we'll be raincheckin' for Friday. Instead, Lara and I blasted across the cosmos for Star Wars Battlefront 2 fun. We killed a lot of Ewoks and Gunguns. Then, we hit the supermarket and picked up all the necessary items for nachos and tacos, then proceeded to make said items and consume them with gusto. :-)

Today, we are about to put together my new desk! :-)
